St. George, patron saint of the town together with St. Mary of Merino, is celebrated in Vieste on 23rd April with a procession: the festival includes fireworks, a horse race on the castle beach and concerts.
The festival dedicated to Saint Mary of Merino is celebrated on 9th May. A procession follows the main streets of the historical centre, while the Holy Mass is celebrated in the Cathedral, which treasures an exquisite wood sculpture representing the Virgin Mary of Merino.
The festival, which is celebrated with great participation and religious fervour, is an unmissable opportunity for experiencing Vieste’s traditions, folklore and popular culture.
